Kate Bishop and Christopher Hegge's Honeymoon Registry

Italy

Thank you so much for visiting our honeymoon registry! We can't wait to send you all postcards and make you terribly jealous as we sip espresso and experience, as the Italians say, "the sweetness of doing nothing."

Truly, we thank you for helping make this possible for us. The memories of this trip will last us far longer than a spatula or a china gravy boat.

Much, much love,
Chris & Kate

Entertainment/Activities

Bike ride through Tuscany

Bike ride through Tuscany

It wouldn't be us if we didn't squeeze in a bike ride somewhere. Besides, we have to work off all the pasta some how! Why not do it and see the countryside! Give us both a day out on two wheels!

Cooking Class

Cooking Class

Now this is a class we can get into. It's no secret Kate is the household executive chef. My duties usually fall between sous chef and the guy in the back washing dishes right after taking out the trash. This is a good thing as I could live off of cold turkey sandwiches and Gatorade. Maybe this little gift will help the executive chef expand her expertise. I will be busy eating. If you play your cards right, you may be invited over to sample what we've learned.

Gondola Ride

Gondola Ride

We don't consider ourselves "tourists." Neither of us has an airbrush t-shirt from Florida or a spoon collection from every state we've visited. However, sometimes there are those places and occasions where donning the huge camera and strapping on the neon fanny pack to do something so quintessentially touristy is so absolutely necessary, it might even be fun. Just like hanging out of the cable cars in San Francisco, wearing the Mickey ears at Disneyland and riding camels in Egypt, a gondola ride through the Venetian canals may end up being the highlight of our stay

Horseback Riding in Como

Horseback Riding in Como

The first time I rode a horse was at the Bishop farm. Kate, who seemingly grew up mostly on horseback, assured me everything would be fine. Unfortunately, I was told my gym shoes were not acceptable quickly relegated to a pair of saddle oxfords. Kate's grandmother was even called over to observe and laugh with the rest of the family, while I circled the ring wearing dress shoes, white tube socks and a death grip. Vinnie got the better of me that day. Ideally the Italian horses are a little more laid back, maybe not as smart and we can enjoy the amazing Lake Como scenery. I casually mentioned this as a possibility and Kate's eyes lit up. I know she would love it.

Accommodations

Half Night in Florence

½ Night in Florence

Our first stop! Small and tucked away, Hotel Donatello is a little off the beaten path in Florence. Perfect for wandering the streets a little less traveled in one of the world's most revered cities.

Half Night in Florence
$100.00 each

Half Night in Lake Como

½ Night in Lake Como

Second stop, Lake Como! We're excited about the entire experience, but honestly the lakes region is what we're especially looking forward too. This hotel Regina Olga is in Cernobbio, just a ferry ride away from the station in Como. The weather is supposed to be nice, but cool, since the lake is in the foothills of the Alps.

Dining

Dinner in Tuscany

Dinner in Tuscany

When you think of Tuscany what is the first thing that comes to mind? Alright probably rolling hills and vineyards. Right after that though...exactly: amazing food. Although, there is a huge variety from what we think of as Italian; seafood near the coast, al dente pastas in the central areas and hearty meat dishes in the northern mountains. What makes Italy special? They're all great culinary treasures we're eager to experience.

Lunch in Tuscany

Lunch in Tuscany

We haven't been there yet, but we've heard lunch in Italy has a tendency to start on time and slowly ease into mid afternoon. It's an experience, not a time to grab a fast food burger and rush off to somewhere you HAVE to be. Naturally we'll have to wash it all down with some wine. When in Rome...

Transportation

Ferry Rides on Lake Como

Ferry Rides on Lake Como

The best thing about traveling about Lake Como is that the ferry rides double as the best site seeing tour. It's also the easiest way to hopscotch to the other cities around the lake. Did I mention it's supposed to be one of the most beautiful places on Earth?

Partial Airfare

Partial Airfare

It's not the most romantic gift, but we can't do anything until we get there and trust me, it is absolutely appreciated. We plan on leaving from Nashville on Monday after the wedding and coming home somewhere around the 14th. That should give us a few days to rest before going back to work.

Rental Car for Tuscany

Rental Car for Tuscany

I would like to drive something Italian with my new wife. The choices are endless... ferrari, lamborgini, buggati... Most likely we'll end up with a FIAT. We plan to do some wine tasting and touring around Tuscany for a day, for instance at the Drei Dona vineyard. The photo ops will be perfect and we might even bring home a bottle of vino or two.

Train Tickets from Florence to the Lakes

Train Tickets from Florence to the Lakes

The second leg of our journey will be from Florence to Lake Como. As with most European travel, the easiest way is to let someone else do the driving while we sit back and enjoy the scenery. Who knows, we might even meet some interesting people along the way.

Late Night Dessert

Late Night Dessert

I admit, this one is mostly for me. I inherited the Allegrini sweet tooth from my mother. Apparently the region surrounding Venice is the ancestral home of tiramisu. Coincidence...maybe? Though, in all seriousness, if you ask both of us what our most romantic memory is, you'll undoubtedly get an answer of strudel in Vienna. On a trip almost two years ago, after a leisurely evening walk through the warm quiet alleyways of the historic district, we happened upon a picnic table cafe. Over cold local beer and warm strudel, we talked for hours about ourselves and what we might become. I don't remember exactly, but marriage may have been mentioned. Talk about the magic of a good dessert.

Lattes, cappuccinos, esspressos

Right beside local wine and handmade pasta on the list of Italian eating experiences is a great cup of coffee. We don't plan on keeping any kind of hectic schedule on our honeymoon, but a little pick me up in the middle of the day isn't unreasonable. Not to mention, sipping at an outdoor cafe, talking, laughing and people watching happens to be one of our favorite past times.

Our "Italian" gift

Our “Italian” gift

Soon after we decided on Italy as our honeymoon destination, Kate came up with a great idea, as she often does. Why not save up for a gift from our trip? Nothing unnecessarily extravagant, but something we'll both enjoy for years to come and remind us of our honeymoon. The great thing about this gift is that we have no idea what it's going to be, but the spontaneity of it will be half the fun. Who hasn't been on a trip and found something they would love to have, but with all the money it took to get there, stay a few days, get around and try some new restaurants, it just wasn't practical. We're just planning for unexpected inspiration.

Vino, vino, vino!

Vino, vino, vino!

What is more quintessential honeymoon than two newlyweds toasting over a sunset? It's no secret we both love wine. My tastes are a little less than discerning (two words, red and dry). Kate on the other hand appreciates a bit more of the subtleties associated with enjoying one of life's simple pleasures. We'll have no shortage of amazing local wines and we plan on sampling as many as possible. Your gift can help us pick our favorites.
