 | And there she was at the other end of the telephone, a "referral" from a dear friend - Mr. Charles F. Cubellis - and "very busy but don't let her put you off". Well, she didn't and a series of exceptionally long phone calls followed where er learned not only that we'd both graduated from UC- Schools and been born at "rival schools" (Colleen st Stanford/her family's legacy and me at Cal/my family's legacy, but also that we were both descended from historic hispanic families. Colleen's family (AGUILAR) is Californio and Spanish by way of Mission San Diego and Mission San Juan Capistrano. Our family is part of LaPorte/Marysville/YubaCity history and the Gold Rush as very well established and respected Stage Line operators (BUSTILLOS) and contributors to early alpine skiing and skiing technology in the mountains of California and the USA in general. We also found we were both DOG PEOPLE and have reinforeced that since with the 4 dogs we share together (6 when we get up to Sweetbriar!). In fact, it was the same day that Colleen and Julia picked out their Chiweenie "Chewbacca" in Madera and (hours late!) arrived in Pacifica to join me for a sushi dinner and first meeting with them. "Chewy" is still top dog and the "old man" of the four, which today also includes: Lute, Kupcake and Gert. Our courtship began after that with the help of our beloved friend, Charlie Cubellis, who would put up Colleen while visiting Sacramento so I could date her from my home in Fair Oaks, CA. Shortly after that I bought (our hideaway home-to-be) "Threven", our cabin-home tucked away near Emmigrant Gap and Colfax, CA where she promptly found her way to (and how to put chain up her Nissan all on her own!). We've made many wonderful memories there since with Julia and dear, dear neighbors-in-the-woods (and Best Man!) Charlie and Shelly Tipton. Shelly and Colleen even have the same birthday, so it seemed fated from the start that best men and friends would soon be old married dudes together, and grow old together shoveling snow and watching wood smoke curl from each other's cabin. Colleen brought her 'woman's touch" to the cabin and astutely orgainzed while hiding everything from me at the same time. For the past several months now I've been a part of HER household down by the Pacific ocean, just south of SF where daughter Julia and I have bonded to Colleen apply her same "skills" to that house too, but with 4 dogs under foot, its been a little slow for any of us to focus on much more than staying clear of Gert's drool and very very large feet (she is 175lbs of Mastiff) in that little house. Still, more memories have been made now with Julia through 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th. Julia is a senior this year and an honor student and as her proud step-father and I have the privildge of marrying not one, but TWO very smart and beautiful women to share the rest of my life with - a happy ending in the making One Day At A Time.
